The city of Stone Mountain is named for the exposed granite mountain (technically called a monadnock) that towers over the area. The expansive park, lakes, theme park, and nature area around it are very popular. In fact, the actual tiny railroad downtown of Stone Mountain nearby is easy to overlook though it does contain many little shops and restaurants as well as a number of historic churches and homes. You can see more about the town below or follow this link for many more pictures of the park.

In addition to Stone Mountain Park, the larger area of Stone Mountain outside of the downtown holds many other parks and natural areas. One of the best is Yellow River Park along the Yellow River where you can walk trails, use the playground, or scramble over the large rocks in the river.
