Stone Mountain Park is a 3200 acre area which encircles the nearly 2000 foot high mass of rock and granite called Stone Mountain. Technically known as a ‘monadnock’ , the exposed rock towers over the surrounding environs and has been made into an enjoyable recreation park and tourist attraction. The park itself is privately owned which unfortunately leads to there being lots of kitschy displays and exorbitant fees for “special events” where things were once free–but while a large part is commercialized, there are also lots of nooks and crannies to take a private hike, kayak, have a picnic, see the sunset over the lake, camp under the trees, watch wildlife, and enjoy some amazing views that make you forget you are minutes from metro-Atlanta. Here are photos of several aspects of Stone Mountain Park.

KAYAKING STONE MOUNTAIN PARK LAKE (225 Acres)

Living very close to Stone Mountain Park is great for kayaking; it takes just a short time to run over to the park, get to the boat launch, and then have a relaxing time paddling along busy trails, in secluded back areas, under the historic wooden bridge, by the golf course, or many other diverse settings making it always a fun adventure.
