Mount Vernon is the former home of George Washington, both before and after his presidency, and has given its name to the larger community around it as well. The large estate sits on the Potomoc River and has lots of its old farmlands and buildings preserved. (2011)
Through the covered walkway, one can see the Potomoc river that the mansion looks down upon.
Elaborate gardens and old buildings can be visited on the tour of the home.
The tombs of George and Martha Washington remain open for visits on the grounds of Mount Vernon.
Outside the estate is Washington’s old whiskey distillery that still functions today.
