The small railroad town of Manassas still has most of its central old town preserved but is most famous for its nearby Civil War battlefields where the famous conflict often called “The Battle of Bull Run” (for a local creek) or simply “The Battle of Manassas” took place. (2011)
The decisive Civil War battles of this area were scattered across many hills and farm fields that can be explored today. The area is dotted with cannons, carts, and other remainders of the war
This former tavern became an emergency field hospital and still stands today
In the old town of Manassas are many preserved buildings like the town hall seen here.
Another interesting association of Manassas for me is Stephen Still’s band that took its name and featured this rail station on their album cover
