Waynesboro

Sometimes as I’m driving out for kayaking, I’ll stop at a random town that I pass by that seems to have some interesting buildings. Waynesboro was one of those when I happened to drive through its downtown on the way to Magnolia Springs. The self-declared “Bird Dog Capital of the World”, this small town near Augusta has historic central business and residential districts with buildings and homes from back to the 1850s.

The downtown business district of the city is on the National Register of Historic Places and unlike some small southern centers seems still pretty active with day to day life.

Steadman House (c 1915)
Wisteria House (c 1900)
First Presbyterian (1884)
Burke County Courthouse (1857)
