Famous as the home of the University of Georgia Bulldogs, Athens is also known as the center of Georgia’s alternative scene that gave birth to bands like REM and the B-52s. The downtown center is full of both trendy clubs and downhome bars. The town also has a lot of tradition between the stately buildings of the old university and antebellum homes lining Milledge and Dearing streets. (2005,2010)
