Like many of the major towns around Atlanta, Marietta is an old railroad hub that is now the seat of the county in which it lies. Its town square is lined with shops and restaurants and has more of a old town feel than some of its trendier counterparts around the metro area. Its Confederate history is apparent in historical markets and cemeteries around the town as well.
The fountain at the heart of Marietta Square has actually featured in a few film projects.
The old train depot in Marietta now houses some train cars on display.
Around the square are many specialty stores, community buildings, theaters, and museums.

The expansive Confederate cemetery of Marietta makes for a very nice historical visit as well as Kolb Farm where a historic battle took place
