Cartersville

Cartersville is a historic Georgia town along the I-75 corridor an hour up on the way out of Atlanta towards the Georgia and Tennessee mountains. It has a picturesque square on the register of historic places but is most known for its multiple high-quality museums in the area, two of which (Tellus science and Booth Western art) are prominent Smithsonian affiliates. Nearby is also Red Top Mountain state park with a great lake and trails. (2016, 2023)

The dome of the central courthouse sits prominently above the historic downtown square full of antique shops and more

The Booth Western Art Museum is the largest collection of US Western themed art in the world. That doesn’t strike you until to you see the amazing collection of landscape paintings and sculpture and Native American art and artifacts all in one place. Styles run the gamut from traditional to vibrant modern pieces.

Equally impressive is the Tellus Science museum which has multiple sections like a timeline of fossils and recreations of many early travel vehicles. Most impressive is its minerology exhibit full of colorful stones, geodes, meteorites, and more.

Another important place of note in Cartersville is Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site which preserves one of the most significant representations of ancient Mississippian native culture in the US.
