Though I grew up in small town Mississippi, stories of Africa were quite a familiar part of life as my grandparents had lived most of their lives working with churches in Nigeria. While I thought I might one day work there following my studies of development projects in university, my career ended up focusing on the US side of refugee work instead. However, I was fortunate to be chosen to participate in a short secondment to Kenya where I got to see operations in both Nairobi and Kakuma Refugee Camp and finally experience seeing some of the African landscape.
