Grossbottwar is a small town outside of Stuttgart where my friend and his family are from. I’ve had many opportunities to visit him over the years which means I’ve gotten to explore around his small community–from some of the extremely old historic buildings to local festivals and outlying neighborhoods. The centerpiece of Grossbottwar is its old town hall (rathaus) on the square, beautifully restored in detail including the stork that is symbolic of the city.

A unique old building in the thousand year old town of Grossbottwar called the Shiefes Haus or “leaning house”.
In a small German community, it seems there is always some kind of festival or celebration going on like the ones in Grossbottwar you see here.

It wouldn’t be a visit to a German home without a stop for sausages at the local shop
Out from the center of Grossbottwar is the sub-community of Winzerhausen where they will often have festivals and events. It’s also the traditional area where the town had their public oven for baking (backhauskuchen)
