Tugaloo State Park

Lavonia, GA

Tugaloo State Park sits at the point that the Tugaloo River becomes Lake Hartwell, a large reservoir right on the Georgia-South Carolina border. With abundant picnic shelters, concessions, a small beach, trails, and even minigolf, it’d be a great place for a large group outing. A paddle around the confluence of the lake and river can make you feel like you’re out in open water, about seven miles roundtrip around the peninsula and back again

Kayaking (a portion of) Lake Hartwell (55590 acres)

Of course, I was only on a small portion of this massive reservoir — less that 1/300th of the nearly 1000 mile shoreline—as I stuck to making a loop around the peninsula of the park. I enjoyed the feel of being out on a larger body of water and the sight of the highway in the distance as well as the setting sun. There was a few time the water was almost rolling from what I assume was either wind or current from the river.
