Moccasin Creek State Park

Clarkesville, GA

Moccasin Creek is actually Georgia’s smallest state park, little more than one loop of RV park with a pavilion and playground. However, it sits right at the point where Moccasin Creek become Lake Burton and is therefore has ready access to the lake. It is also the start of the trail that goes up along the creek to Hemlock Falls

Kayaking (a portion of) Lake Burton (2775 acres)

Kayaking at Moccasin Creek State Park means that after just a brief start right by the pavilion, you are then heading out of the park area and into the larger area of Lake Burton. It makes for a great view because as you get further out and turn to look back towards the park there’s a wonderful view of mountains in the distance. Continuing down the finger of the lake towards its center, there are huge lake houses and trees brilliant with color in the fall.
